Program Summary

Program Summary

Thank you for your interest in SEMS Rising Stars. We are an after school program that teaches students how to sing, dance and act while putting on a quality musical performance. We focus on building confidence and working as a team as well as production value in our show. We want to offer excellent training to our students and help them grow in their musical theater skills. We are a fee-based program which helps off-set the cost of putting on a big musical production.

How to get involved:

The first step to becoming part of SEMS Rising Stars is to get parent permission. Being in musical theater is a big commitment. You will be required to attend rehearsals every week and memorize lines, songs and dances. Your parent must agree that you are available and willing to commit to this program and to the rehearsals. Also, this program is only successful when everybody chips in to make it happen. Parents are required to serve on a committee and by signing your permission slip they agree to donate their time to this program as well.

Step two print and bring your signed audition packet and sign-up for an Audition Time on one of our selected sign-up days.

Step three you will want to show up on time and ready to go on your given Audition Time. You will then sing a one-minute audition song in front of the director and assistant directors. You may be asked to read a line from the script.

How to audition: You will need to pick a one-minute audition song, preferably something from the show or from another musical. Accompaniment should be without vocals. You can usually find Karaoke tracks on YouTube. We will be offering a one-time audition preparation class that might be beneficial if you have never auditioned before. Auditioning can be scary, but please know that the director and assistant directors are there to help you do your best. We want you to feel comfortable and confident.

Step four we will post a callback list on the SEMS Rising Stars website and the PAC doors. If you are not called back it does not mean that you did not get cast in the show. If you are called back it does not guarantee you a part in the show. Unfortunately, we may not be able to cast everyone in our production. You will need to show up on time to the specified date and time of the callback. Callbacks can last up to three days. Callbacks and cast lists will be posted with your audition number; no names will be posted, so it is important to keep your audition number.

Step five we will post our cast list on the school website and the PAC doors and if your number is on the list you are in the show and part of the SEMS Rising Star Program.

If you are not cast in the play, there are other ways to get involved. We have an awesome backstage program run by Ms. Davis. Our backstage crew helps move sets, run lights, help with sound and create sets/props. They are essential in making the show run smoothly and efficiently. We also are offering workshops in dance, acting, and stage craft all year round through our Rising Stars Program.

Hope to see you out there at auditions!
