Mrs. Mary Clark - Library Media Technician II

Welcome to the Library at SEMS! I'm Mrs. Clark, the Library Media Tech. I've worked in the San Marcos Unified School District since 2002, and I've been at SEMS since 2010.

I live in Carlsbad with my husband. Our daughter attended school in the San Marcos Unified School District for 13 years, graduated from college in New York, and is now working at an internet start-up in South Korea. I attended Rutgers University in New Jersey for my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I moved to California in 1987, because I couldn't convince my husband to leave this wonderful weather!

I'm so lucky to be working in a middle school library! There are so many wonderful authors writing for tweens and teens that I take stacks of novels home to read each week. I'm also privileged to work at San Elijo Middle School. The dedication and enthusiasm of the teachers and staff is truly inspiring. I enjoy supporting the research projects that students conduct in all subject areas and helping them find new tools and apps to help boost their creativity and critical thinking.

Besides reading, I enjoy hiking with my family and our dog, Louie, going to the beach, bike riding, and traveling. But honestly? You'll mostly find me with my nose in a book!

Mrs. Courtney Wise - Library Media Technician Assistant

I am Mrs. Wise, and I am the Library Media Tech Assistant, otherwise known as Mrs. Clark's right hand (wo)man! This will be my first year working in the Library at SEMS. Prior to this I could be found volunteering most days at La Costa Meadows.

I live in Carlsbad with my husband and three kids. I have a son in 7th grade at SEMS and two daughters at LCM, one in 5th grade and one in 2nd. For undergraduate school I attended James Madison University in Virginia. I studied art and dance for 2 years but ultimately decided to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. I attended West Virginia University to obtain my Master’s Degree in Social Work. As a social worker, I worked with many different populations. Since having kids, I have rekindled my passion for art. For a while, I had my own business teaching art to young children. Most recently, I have served primarily in the classrooms teaching art as an Art Docent. I have lived in many different states as well as in Japan. I am also a Girl Scout leader and a soccer team manager.

The library is such an exciting place to be! There are so many things to do...and reading is just one of them! I truly believe that the library has become the "Learning Commons" of the school, and I feel so lucky to get to be a part of it everyday! I have always loved books and libraries and it has been my dream to work in a library.

In my spare time, I love to travel, hike and camp, watch movies, be creative, read (of course!) and just hang out with my family and all of our pets.
