Information for District Championship Meet

For our championship meet here are a couple of key points we need our athletes to understand:

  • This is NOT an individual meet where you can pick just ONE event for yourself.  Please think of your SEMS team and the team's goal of winning first place for the district meet.
  • Each event is scored based on how a student places. For example: 1 place (10 points); 2nd place (8 points); 3rd place (6 points); 4th place (4 points); 5th place (2 points); 6th place (1 point).  We need a minimum of six students per EVENT, per GRADE  and per GENDER or we start losing points (because we did not compete to score points).
  • For every event we need to make sure ALL SIX SPOTS for each grade and gender are fulfilled. For example, we need a total of (six) 6th grade girls competing in shot put to score points.  We need (six) 6th grade girls competing in the mile to score as many points as possible.   We need (six) 6th grade girls competing in the 800 to score as many points for the team.  This goes for all running and field events per grade level and gender.
  • Each athlete should commit to three events in an effort to score points.  Students that sign up for only ONE event will be asked to help by participating in other events for the team. Every point counts!!!
  • For the championship meet, the 100m is limited to 4 participants. The coaches will pick the 4 participants and 2 alternate spots for each grade and gender. This will be  based on top times and performance over the past few meets.  Just because a student chooses this option, it is NOT an automatic guarantee.
  •  We ask that the students pick other events that they are willing to compete in and help win the district championship for SEMS.

In the end, the school with the most points OVERALL wins the track meet and is awarded the track trophy for the year.  Points are by grade/gender level and the overall total as a school (Example at the end).

Key Points for the Championship meet registration: Due to the deadline requirements of, if the student has not registered they will not be able to participate in the meet.  This is a hard and fast rule with no exceptions.

Looking forward to winning the championship!
