TRUANCY
Every student is expected to attend school daily and be on time for class. If a student is absent from class without a valid excuse or leaves class without the teacher's permission, the student is considered truant. Truancy also includes students who are more than 30 minutes late to school without a verified reason, or "ditching" part or the whole of a period. This also applies to unverified/unexcused absences.
CONSEQUENCES
Truancy Letters: Per Ed Code, the district is required to notify a student's parent/guardian when your student exceeds 3, 6 and 9 unexcused absences in a school year. A district letter will be sent to the parent/guardian via ParentVue when these thresholds have been met. To discuss truancy letter matters, please contact the AP Office at 760-290-2813.
Chronic Absence Notice: State of California Education Code 60901(c)(1) instructs schools to consider a student as a 'chronic absentee' wherever the student has missed more than 10% of the school year, for any reason, from the date the student enrolled until the present.
In addition, Board policy 5113 states that once a student exceeds 10 absences in a school year for illness, the school or district may require further absences be verified by a physician.
