Dear Students and Families,

Welcome to the 2024-25 San Elijo Middle School year! 

We are proud to be celebrating 20 years serving SMUSD students this year and as Middle School educators, we love our early adolescent learners! Our goal is to meet your children where they are at, while also intentionally giving them the opportunities to learn both the academic and social/emotional skills to be successful in today's world. This is where we incorporate our Portrait of a Graduate competencies of Empathy, Communication, Adaptability, Leadership, and Critical Thinking into our daily instruction.

I’d like to take this opportunity to re-introduce you to our Administrative Team that is proud to serve our school for a second year together. Mrs. Sestito and Mrs. Gutierrez are both experienced Assistant Principals who have unique backgrounds that help them to support our students. Mrs. Sestito was a French teacher at MHHS and SMHS, and is starting her 4th year here at SEMS. Mrs. Gutierrez is in her 9th year as an Assistant Principal and is currently earning her Doctorate in Education with a focus on Early Adolescent Development. I'm in my second year as Principal at SEMS, and I come to our school with over 20 years of educational experience in mostly Special Education or Administrative work. 

We are excited to embark on our learning journey together this year with our students! Please know that we are here to work alongside you in support of your child.
